Seoul International Fireworks Festival 2026: Best Spots & Transport

Seoul International Fireworks Festival 2026 over the Han River at Yeouido

There are two ways to plan the Seoul International Fireworks Festival 2026.

You can think only about where to watch the fireworks.

Or you can also plan how to survive the crowd, avoid road closures, choose the right subway station, and actually get back to your hotel without spending half the night stuck in Yeouido.

For foreign visitors, the second plan is much better.

The main Seoul International Fireworks Festival 2026 takes place on Saturday, September 5, 2026, around Yeouido Hangang Park. The official program includes teams from the United Kingdom, the United States, and Korea, with the main fireworks show scheduled from 8:00 PM to 9:10 PM.

General viewing around the main Yeouido festival area is free, although separate paid viewing zones are also available.

Before visiting, check the official Hanwha festival website and the official Visit Seoul 2026 event page for last-minute changes.

Visit Seoul currently lists the main September 5 program as 1:00 PM–11:00 PM, including citizen programs, the opening ceremony, the 70-minute international fireworks show, an after-show DJ program designed partly to spread out departing crowds, and a clean campaign.

There is one date detail worth understanding.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government September event schedule lists the broader festival across September 4–5, with a program on September 4 and the main fireworks day on September 5. Seoul's festival calendar also describes September 4 as the eve event and September 5 as the fireworks show.

So if you are visiting Seoul specifically for the fireworks, Saturday, September 5 is the date that matters most.

Do You Need a Ticket?

For the main public viewing areas around Yeouido Hangang Park, no general admission ticket is required.

That does not mean every viewing area is free.

There are paid zones, including Nodeul Island, which works very differently from simply walking into Yeouido Hangang Park. I will explain that below because it is one of the easiest 2026 details for visitors to misunderstand.

BEST VIEWING AREAS

Where Should You Watch the Seoul Fireworks Festival?

Wide Han River view of Seoul fireworks from an alternative viewing area

There is no single perfect viewing spot.

The right location depends on whether you care most about being close to the main atmosphere, having a different river view, paying for a controlled area, or making your trip home easier.

1. Yeouido Hangang Park — Best for the Full Festival Atmosphere

If this is your first Seoul International Fireworks Festival, Yeouido is the obvious choice.

This is where the main festival program takes place, including the citizen participation events before the show and the central festival atmosphere.

The advantage is simple: you are inside the event.

The disadvantage is also simple: a huge number of other people have exactly the same idea.

Do not build a plan that assumes you can arrive just before 8:00 PM, easily find a perfect riverside spot, watch the show, and immediately enter Yeouinaru Station afterward.

That is the version of the night that looks good on paper.

The real event requires more patience.

If you want to understand what the Han River area is like after dark before festival day, read JAY’s Han River at Night guide.

2. Ichon Hangang Park — A Different View Across the River

Seoul's official September schedule identifies Yeouido and Ichon Hangang Parks as part of the 2026 festival area.

Ichon gives you a different perspective from the opposite side of the Han River.

You trade some of Yeouido's close-up festival atmosphere for a broader view toward the river and Yeouido skyline.

That does not mean Ichon will be empty.

The Seoul fireworks are one of the city's major annual events, and alternative riverside viewpoints can also attract large crowds.

Choose Ichon because you prefer that viewing angle and route — not because you expect a secret, empty location.

3. Nodeul Island Orange Play Zone — Paid and Reservation-Only

This needs to be very clear for 2026:

Nodeul Island is not a free backup viewing spot this year.

Hanwha states that the entire island is being operated as the Orange Play Zone, and only visitors with advance tickets may enter.

The official Orange Play Zone ticket page currently lists:

  • Zone 1 — ₩110,000
  • Zone 2 — ₩165,000
  • Zone 3 — ₩165,000
  • Zone 4 — ₩220,000

Ticket availability can change, so check the booking page rather than assuming seats remain available.

There is another important warning.

Hanwha specifically notes that Nodeul Island is not directly in front of the main fireworks production area, so views may be partially restricted depending on the location.

In other words, the paid ticket is partly about having a controlled festival experience with performances, activities and facilities. It should not automatically be interpreted as “the closest possible fireworks view.”

JAY’s Viewing Strategy

If you want the strongest festival atmosphere, choose Yeouido.

If you prefer a river-across-city perspective and your transport plan works better from the north side, consider Ichon.

If you want a ticketed zone with separate activities and are comfortable paying for it, investigate Nodeul Island.

But whichever location you choose, decide how you are leaving before deciding exactly where you are sitting.

For this festival, the exit plan matters almost as much as the viewing spot.

Seoul Fireworks Festival 2026 Transport: This Is the Part You Should Plan First

Crowds leaving Yeouido after Seoul International Fireworks Festival 2026

The fireworks are the easy part.

Getting hundreds of thousands of people away from the Han River afterward is the complicated part.

For September 5, 2026, the latest dedicated Hanwha traffic notice states that Yeouidong-ro between the south end of Mapo Bridge and the area in front of the 63 Building will be fully closed to regular traffic from 3:00 PM until midnight.

Access from Olympic-daero and Nodeul-gil toward the 63 Building may also be controlled flexibly depending on real-time conditions.

The Yeouido Hangang Park parking area in front of the 63 Building is scheduled to close from 6:00 PM on September 4 until midnight on September 5.

That is why I would not build a festival plan around driving directly into Yeouido.

Do Not Depend on Yeouinaru Station

Yeouinaru Station is physically convenient for Yeouido Hangang Park.

That does not make it the best station to depend on after the fireworks.

Hanwha's current 2026 FAQ says Yeouinaru Station may be temporarily restricted depending on crowd density.

Notice the wording: it is not accurate to say the station is guaranteed to close or that trains will definitely skip it.

It may be controlled if conditions require it.

Official guidance recommends considering nearby stations including:

Yeouido Station · Saetgang Station · Daebang Station

Depending on where you stand during the show, walking farther to a less overwhelmed station can be smarter than joining the largest crowd heading immediately toward Yeouinaru.

If Seoul's subway system is still unfamiliar, read JAY’s guide to using the Seoul subway before festival day.

If you are deciding between a standard transit card and an unlimited Seoul pass, see JAY’s Seoul Climate Card guide.

The 30-Minute Rule Is Actually Useful

When the final fireworks finish, your instinct will probably be:

Leave immediately.

That is also what a huge percentage of the crowd will try to do.

Hanwha's own visitor guidance suggests that leaving around 30 minutes later can make the journey home relatively easier.

Conveniently, the official program already includes an after-show DJ performance from 9:10 PM to 10:00 PM as the crowd disperses.

You do not need to stay until the very end.

But unless you have a specific reason to rush away, immediately joining the first giant wave of people can be the worst possible timing.

My preferred sequence would be:

Fireworks end → stay calm → clean up your area → wait for the first crowd wave to move → walk toward the station that best matches your route.

There Is Also a River Traffic Restriction

This is especially relevant if you were thinking about using a boat or arranging something on the river.

Hanwha says the river section between Mapo Bridge and the Hangang Railway Bridge will be fully restricted from 5:00 PM until the end of the fireworks show on September 5.

Do not assume a normal Han River boat route will operate through the fireworks zone during that period.

WHAT TO BRING + FAQ + JAY’S TAKE

What to Bring to the Seoul Fireworks Festival

Foreign visitors preparing for Seoul International Fireworks Festival at Yeouido Hangang Park

The 2026 festival is in early September, not late autumn.

That matters.

Hanwha's official preparation guide specifically warns that daytime temperatures can still be high and recommends sun protection, rest and frequent hydration. It also notes that mosquitoes and other insects can still be active in early autumn.

For most foreign visitors, I would bring:

  • water
  • sun protection
  • insect repellent
  • a charged phone
  • a power bank
  • simple food or snacks
  • a small trash bag
  • only the bags you actually need

Hanwha also warns that food delivery can be difficult inside such a crowded festival area and recommends preparing food yourself if necessary.

The official safety guide asks visitors to use designated clean zones, avoid blocking walking routes and avoid personal tents in the crowded festival area.

Do Not Bring a Bicycle Into the Evening Crowd

According to the current 2026 FAQ, bicycles may enter before 2:00 PM, but bicycles, inline skates and boards are restricted after 2:00 PM for crowd safety.

This is another reason to think of the festival as a walking-and-public-transport day rather than a normal Han River cycling day.

What If You Have Luggage After Hotel Checkout?

Do not drag a large suitcase into one of Seoul's biggest crowds unless you genuinely have no alternative.

If your hotel cannot hold your luggage after checkout, you can compare a nearby storage option through Bounce luggage storage before heading toward the festival.

Check the exact storage location, closing time and your post-fireworks route before booking.

The important part is not simply finding luggage storage.

It is finding storage that you can still reach after road controls and festival crowds change the way you move around Seoul.

Seoul Fireworks Festival 2026 FAQ

Is the Seoul International Fireworks Festival free?

The main general festival area at Yeouido Hangang Park is free. Visit Seoul lists admission as free while noting that separate paid ticket reservations are available.

Nodeul Island's Orange Play Zone is a separate paid, ticketed area.

What time are the fireworks?

The main international fireworks show is scheduled for 8:00 PM–9:10 PM on Saturday, September 5, 2026.

Which countries are participating?

The official lineup lists teams from the United Kingdom, the United States and Korea.

Should I use Yeouinaru Station?

You can, but do not make it your only plan.

It may be temporarily controlled depending on crowd density. Yeouido, Saetgang and Daebang are official alternative station suggestions.

Can I drive to Yeouido?

Driving is possible in the wider city, but significant roads around the event are restricted and the main Hangang Park parking area near the 63 Building will be closed.

Public transport is the safer default for most visitors.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Hanwha says the schedule may change when severe weather is forecast.

Check the again on the day rather than relying only on an itinerary you made several days earlier.

JAY’s Take

The biggest mistake at the Seoul International Fireworks Festival 2026 is spending all your planning time searching for the “perfect spot.”

Your viewing spot matters.

But your arrival time, subway backup, crowd strategy and route home will determine whether the night feels amazing or exhausting.

My simple rule would be:

Choose the exit before you choose the picnic spot.

Watch the fireworks, enjoy the Han River, do not race the entire crowd into the first subway entrance, and give yourself enough time to leave Seoul's biggest fireworks night properly.

If this is part of a larger Korea trip, keep JAY’s South Korea Travel Checklist 2026 with your other pre-trip planning.

Last checked: August 30, 2026. Event operations, weather plans and crowd-control measures can still change, so recheck the official festival notice before you leave for Yeouido.
