Seoul to Nami Island 2026: ITX, Shuttle Bus or Day Tour?
Traveling from Seoul to Nami Island in 2026 is straightforward once you understand one important detail: reaching Gapyeong Station is only part of the journey.
You still need to travel from Gapyeong Station to the Nami Island wharf, buy or show your admission ticket, and take the short ferry across to the island.
For most international travelers, there are three practical ways to make the trip from Seoul:
- ITX-Cheongchun train: best for flexibility and independent travelers
- Direct round-trip shuttle bus: best if you want the simplest transport
- Organized day tour: best if you want to combine Nami Island with other Gapyeong attractions
The cheapest-looking option is not always the easiest, and the easiest option does not always give you the most time on the island.
This guide compares the routes, explains the final transfer from Gapyeong Station, covers the 2026 ferry and admission rules, and helps you choose the right option for your trip.

Before traveling, check the official Nami Island transportation guide and use the official KORAIL ticket reservation website for your exact train date and departure time.
Seoul to Nami Island 2026: Quick Comparison
| Option | Best for | Main advantage | Main drawback |
| ITX-Cheongchun | Independent travelers | Fast and flexible | Requires a final transfer from Gapyeong Station |
| Direct shuttle bus | Travelers who want simplicity | No train navigation | Fixed departure and return times |
| Organized day tour | Travelers combining several attractions | Transport logistics handled for you | Less freedom over your schedule |
JAY’s quick rule: choose the ITX if you want control over your day, the direct shuttle if you want the easiest transport, and a tour if Nami Island is only one stop in a larger Gapyeong itinerary.
Option 1: ITX-Cheongchun from Seoul to Gapyeong
For most independent travelers, the ITX-Cheongchun offers the best balance of speed and flexibility.
Nami Island’s official transportation guide currently lists approximate ITX travel times of:
- Yongsan Station → Gapyeong Station: about 60 minutes
- Cheongnyangni Station → Gapyeong Station: about 42 minutes
The ITX-Cheongchun is a KORAIL train and requires a separate train ticket. It is not simply another ride using a normal Seoul subway fare.
Check schedules and purchase the appropriate ticket through KORAIL.
KORAIL currently allows travelers to check schedules and purchase tickets up to one month before departure.
For weekends, autumn foliage season and Korean holiday periods, booking ahead is safer than assuming your preferred departure will still have seats.
Should You Leave from Yongsan or Cheongnyangni?
Choose based on where you are staying in Seoul.
Yongsan can be convenient if your hotel is around central or western Seoul.
Cheongnyangni often makes more sense from eastern or northeastern Seoul and has a shorter listed ITX travel time to Gapyeong.
Do not cross Seoul just because another guide says one departure station is always better.
The fastest trip is the one with the shortest total journey from your hotel, not simply the shortest train ride.
If Seoul’s rail system is unfamiliar, read JAY’s Seoul Subway Guide before your travel day.
Gapyeong Station to Nami Island: The Part Many Guides Skip
Getting off the train at Gapyeong Station does not mean you have arrived on Nami Island.
The official Nami Island transportation guide lists the distance between Gapyeong Station and the Nami Island wharf at about 1.5 km.
You have three realistic choices.
1. Walk
Official guidance estimates the walk at about 20 minutes.
This can be reasonable in good weather if you are traveling light.
However, a 20-minute walk is less attractive with large luggage, children, heavy rain, summer heat or freezing winter weather.
2. Taxi
The official guide estimates the journey by vehicle at about 5 minutes.
For two or more travelers, a short taxi ride is often the easiest solution because it removes unnecessary friction from the day.
3. Local Bus 10-4
Nami Island’s official access information also lists local bus 10-4 as an option between the Gapyeong area and the Nami Island wharf.
Bus schedules can change, so check the current timetable rather than building your itinerary around an old screenshot from another travel blog.
JAY’s pick: if the taxi queue is reasonable, I would usually take a taxi from Gapyeong Station and save the walking energy for the island itself.
Nami Island Admission Price in 2026
The current standard admission price is ₩19,000.
The important part is what that price includes.
Standard admission with the regular ferry includes both the ferry trip into Nami Island and the return ferry to the mainland.
You do not normally need to buy a separate regular ferry ticket on top of the standard admission ticket.
| Standard admission | ₩19,000 |
| Discount admission | ₩16,000 for qualifying visitors |
| Special discount | ₩13,000 for qualifying visitors and certain time-based admissions |
| Regular round-trip ferry | Included with the applicable admission |
Discount categories have specific eligibility rules, so check the official Nami Island admission page rather than assuming age or nationality automatically qualifies you.
How Long Is the Nami Island Ferry Ride?
The regular ferry crossing takes approximately 5 minutes.
During normal operation, the official schedule currently lists regular ferries approximately:
- 8:00 AM–9:00 AM: every 30 minutes
- 9:00 AM–6:00 PM: every 10–20 minutes
- 6:00 PM–9:00 PM: every 30 minutes
Operating times can be extended during busy spring, summer and autumn periods.
Check the official Nami Island ferry schedule before your visit, especially during peak autumn weekends.
Special Autumn 2026 Ferry Hours
If you are visiting for autumn foliage, Nami Island has announced extended ferry operation for part of the 2026 autumn season.
From September 18 through November 22, 2026, the current official schedule lists:
- Additional first ferry at 7:30 AM: every day
- Extended final ferry at 9:30 PM: Friday, Saturday, Sunday and public holidays
This gives independent travelers more flexibility during one of Nami Island’s busiest seasons.
Ferry operation can still change because of weather or on-site conditions, so check the official schedule shortly before your visit.
Option 2: Direct Shuttle Bus from Seoul to Nami Island
If you do not want to navigate trains and the final Gapyeong transfer, Nami Island’s official transportation information currently lists a daily Ktourstory round-trip shuttle between Seoul and the Nami Island access area.
Seoul → Nami Island
| 09:00 | Hongik University Station Exit 4 |
| 09:40 | Namsan Yejang Bus Transfer Parking Lot near Myeongdong |
| 09:50 | Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station Exit 9 |
| 11:30 | Scheduled arrival at the Nami Island wharf / entrance area |
Nami Island → Seoul
| 16:30 | Depart from the Nami Island access area |
| 18:00 | Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station |
| 18:10 | Namsan Yejang Bus Transfer Parking Lot near Myeongdong |
| 18:50 | Hongik University Station |
There are three important restrictions to know.
- The shuttle is currently sold as a round-trip service only.
- Nami Island admission is not included.
- Pets are not allowed on the shuttle.
That second point causes the most confusion.
Buying the shuttle does not mean you already have your Nami Island admission and ferry covered.
You still need an appropriate Nami Island admission ticket before entering the island.
Is the Shuttle Better Than the ITX?
It depends on what you value.
The shuttle wins on simplicity.
You board at one of several locations in Seoul, avoid navigating KORAIL and the Gapyeong Station transfer, and return to a known drop-off point.
But the fixed 4:30 PM departure from the Nami Island area also limits your flexibility.
If you want to stay into sunset, spend a slow day on the island or use the extended autumn ferry hours, the ITX route gives you much more control.
If you dislike transfers and simply want a straightforward sightseeing day, the shuttle can be the easier choice.
Option 3: Organized Nami Island Day Tour
A third option is an organized day tour from Seoul.
This makes the most sense when Nami Island is not your only destination.
Many Gapyeong-area itineraries combine Nami Island with attractions such as:
- Garden of Morning Calm
- Gangchon Rail Bike
- other seasonal Gapyeong attractions
The advantage is logistical efficiency.
You do not need to coordinate a Seoul train, the Gapyeong transfer and transportation between several attractions yourself.
The trade-off is flexibility.
A multi-stop tour usually gives you a fixed amount of time on Nami Island, and you travel according to the group schedule.
Before booking any third-party tour, check exactly what the price includes.
In particular, confirm whether the package includes:
- Nami Island admission
- round-trip ferry
- transport from Seoul
- other attraction tickets
- meals
- a guide or transportation only
Do not compare two tours using the headline price alone when the inclusions are different.
ITX vs Shuttle vs Day Tour: Which Should You Choose?
| If you want... | Choose |
| Maximum freedom | ITX-Cheongchun |
| The simplest transport | Direct shuttle |
| Several Gapyeong attractions in one day | Organized day tour |
| Early morning arrival | ITX-Cheongchun |
| Late autumn departure flexibility | ITX-Cheongchun |
| No interest in figuring out Gapyeong transfers | Direct shuttle or tour |
For most independent international travelers, I would choose the ITX-Cheongchun.
It requires one more transport step, but the flexibility is usually worth it.
How Much Time Do You Need on Nami Island?
For a first visit, I would allow roughly 3–5 hours on the island.
That gives you time to walk the tree-lined paths, take photos, eat, stop for coffee and explore without treating the island like a race.
You can spend less time if Nami Island is one stop on a larger itinerary.
You can also stay longer if you enjoy slow travel, photography or autumn scenery.
The important thing is to calculate island time separately from transportation time.
A “10-hour day trip” from Seoul does not mean you have ten hours on Nami Island.
Best Time to Visit Nami Island
Nami Island changes dramatically by season.
Spring
Good for fresh greenery and spring flowers.
Summer
Lush and green, but expect heat, humidity and possible rain.
Autumn
One of the most popular periods because of fall foliage.
This also means larger crowds, especially on weekends.
The 2026 extended autumn ferry schedule from September 18 to November 22 provides more travel flexibility, but it also reflects the higher visitor demand during this season.
Winter
Quieter, colder and visually very different from the classic green or autumn version of the island.
Dress for prolonged outdoor walking rather than just Seoul subway temperatures.
Weekday or Weekend?
If your schedule allows, I prefer a weekday.
Nami Island is one of Korea’s best-known day-trip destinations, so weekend crowds can change the experience significantly.
A quieter weekday usually makes photography, walking paths and restaurant stops easier.
If you must visit on a weekend during autumn foliage season, consider traveling earlier rather than waiting until late morning.
Should You Bring Luggage?
A small backpack is fine.
Large suitcases make the day unnecessarily difficult because the trip can involve a train or bus, a final land transfer and a ferry.
If Nami Island is a day trip from Seoul, leaving large bags at your accommodation or a legitimate luggage-storage facility is usually more comfortable.
Can You Use a Seoul Climate Card to Get to Nami Island?
You may be able to use a Climate Card for eligible Seoul public transportation while traveling to your ITX departure station, depending on the route you take.
However, the ITX-Cheongchun to Gapyeong requires a separate KORAIL ticket.
Do not assume a Seoul transit pass covers the ITX journey to Gapyeong.
If you are using a Climate Card during the rest of your Seoul trip, read JAY’s Seoul Climate Card Guide separately.
Sample Independent Nami Island Day Trip
A sensible independent itinerary looks like this:
- Morning: travel from Seoul to Gapyeong by ITX-Cheongchun
- After arrival: taxi, local bus or walk from Gapyeong Station to Nami Island wharf
- Late morning: ferry to Nami Island
- Midday–afternoon: explore, eat and take photos
- Late afternoon: ferry back to the mainland
- Evening: return from Gapyeong to Seoul using your chosen train
Do not copy exact train times from an old itinerary.
Search your actual date on the official KORAIL reservation system because schedules and seat availability can change.
Common Nami Island Transport Mistakes
Mistake 1: Thinking Gapyeong Station Is the Island Entrance
It is not.
You still have approximately 1.5 km to travel to the Nami Island wharf.
Mistake 2: Buying a Shuttle and Assuming Admission Is Included
The currently listed direct shuttle specifically states that Nami Island admission is not included.
Mistake 3: Buying a Separate Regular Ferry Ticket Unnecessarily
The current standard admission option with the regular ferry already includes the applicable round-trip ferry.
Mistake 4: Relying on Old Train Screenshots
Use KORAIL for your actual travel date.
Mistake 5: Packing Too Much Into One Day
Nami Island, a rail bike, another garden and several cafés may look easy when displayed as pins on a map.
Transfer time quickly eats into the day.

JAY’s Take
For most travelers, the decision is simpler than it first appears.
If this is your first trip to Korea and you are comfortable using trains, take the ITX-Cheongchun to Gapyeong and use a short taxi ride for the final transfer.
That combination gives you a relatively simple trip without locking you into the shuttle’s 4:30 PM return departure.
If you dislike transport transfers or are traveling with family members who want the easiest possible journey, the direct shuttle is more relaxed.
If your real goal is not simply “visit Nami Island” but rather “see several Gapyeong attractions in one day,” an organized day tour becomes much more logical.
The biggest mistake is choosing based only on the first price you see.
Compare the entire journey:
Seoul departure → Gapyeong or direct shuttle → final transfer → admission → ferry → actual island time → return to Seoul.
Once you compare the whole chain, the best option becomes much easier to identify.
If Nami Island is part of a longer Korea itinerary, you can also use JAY’s 7-Day South Korea Itinerary to decide where the day trip fits best.
Before leaving Seoul, check the official Nami Island transportation page, the official admission page, the official ferry schedule, and your exact train on the official KORAIL reservation site.
