Car-Free Jamsugyo Bridge Festival 2026: Dates, Sunday Themes & Transport Guide
Car-Free Jamsugyo Bridge Festival 2026 returns to the Hangang River this fall, turning one of Seoul’s most unusual bridges into a pedestrian festival every Sunday for eight weeks.
Instead of cars, Jamsugyo Bridge fills with walkers, food trucks, performances, markets, music, hands-on activities and Hangang night views.
But the 2026 autumn season is not exactly the same every week.
One Sunday opens with a large water-gun event. Another focuses on Chuseok and international traditional performances. October brings a major food-truck day, media art, wellness programs and a final festival event that is still being finalized.
There is also one reason 2026 is especially significant.
Seoul says this autumn will be the final season of the festival in its current “Car-Free Jamsugyo Bridge” format before Jamsugyo is fully pedestrianized in the second half of 2027.
This guide explains which Sunday to choose, what is free, which programs require reservations, how road closures work and the easiest way for foreign visitors to get there.

The 2026 autumn festival operates every Sunday from September 6 through October 25.
Festival hours are 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, giving travelers enough time to experience Jamsugyo during the afternoon, sunset and after dark.
What Is the Car-Free Jamsugyo Bridge Festival?
Jamsugyo is the lower bridge running beneath Banpodaegyo Bridge across the Hangang River.
On festival Sundays, vehicle traffic is removed and the bridge becomes a long pedestrian event space connected to Banpo Hangang Park.
The festival began in 2022 as part of Seoul’s effort to return Jamsugyo to pedestrians and has grown into one of the city’s major Hangang events.
According to Seoul Metropolitan Government, cumulative attendance has now exceeded 6.47 million visitors.
One of the best things for travelers is that this is not a closed, ticketed festival.
You can simply arrive, walk through the main event area and enjoy the atmosphere.
General admission is free.
You only pay if you choose to buy food, products or participate in selected paid experiences.
2026 Fall Schedule: Which Sunday Should You Visit?
Choosing the right Sunday matters because the headline program changes every week.
September 6 — Jamsugyo Water Wars
Main program: 2:00 PM–5:00 PM
The autumn season opens with a large water-gun event at the upstream Riverside Stage in Banpo Hangang Park.
The official plan calls for around 800 participants across two rounds.
This is not an activity where you should simply arrive and assume you can join.
Advance registration through the official festival website is required for the Water Wars program.
You can still visit the wider festival without participating in the water-gun event.
September 13 — DDoo-DDoo Together X Seoul Student Club ON
Main program: 2:00 PM–8:00 PM
University clubs take over parts of Jamsugyo with performances and activities including busking, K-pop dance, traditional pungmul performances, magic experiences and Polaroid photo events.
Official information says visitors can participate in the special program through same-day on-site registration.
This is a good date for travelers who want an energetic youth and performance atmosphere without needing to reserve the headline program weeks in advance.
September 20 — Jamsugyo Fall Field Day
Main program: 2:00 PM–10:00 PM
Jamsugyo becomes a giant playground with five easy-to-understand activities including Red Light, Green Light, tug-of-war and hula hoop challenges.
The program is planned across five rounds.
Advance registration through the official festival website is required for the main field-day program.
September 27 — Moonlight Chuseok Festival
Main program: 3:00 PM–6:00 PM
If you are visiting Seoul around Chuseok, this is one of the most interesting festival Sundays.
The Riverside Stage at Banpo Hangang Park will host traditional performances representing six countries: Korea, Argentina, Bulgaria, Russia, Panama and Kazakhstan.
Korean traditional activities such as yut nori are also planned.
The official schedule says visitors can attend and participate on the day without advance registration for the main cultural program.
JAY’s pick for culture: September 27.
October 4 — Jamsugyo Gourmet Road
Main program: 2:00 PM–10:00 PM
This is the strongest date if your priority is food.
For one day, Jamsugyo is scheduled to become a major food road with around 100 or more food trucks serving food from Korea and other countries.
An outdoor dining zone with approximately 800 seats is also planned.
JAY’s pick for food: October 4.
October 11 — Moonlight Jamsugyo Media Art
Main program: 7:00 PM–10:00 PM
This is probably the strongest themed Sunday if your priority is Seoul night photography.
Media art inspired by the Milky Way is scheduled to use the ceiling of Jamsugyo and the structure of Banpodaegyo Bridge, combining light and music after sunset.
Because Jamsugyo sits directly beneath the larger Banpodaegyo structure, the bridge itself becomes part of the visual experience.
The main media-art program is listed as free viewing without advance registration.
JAY’s pick for night views: October 11.
October 18 — Jamsugyo Refresh Day
Main program: 5:00 PM–8:00 PM
This Sunday shifts away from the louder festival atmosphere.
The official program includes sunset yoga, stretching and meditation sessions designed around relaxation beside the Hangang River.
Advance registration through the official festival website is required for the main wellness program.
October 25 — Final Sunday
The October 25 festival date is confirmed, but the special closing program is still listed as to be announced.
Do not rely on unofficial blogs guessing what the finale will include.
If you plan to visit on October 25, check the official website again closer to the date.
Which Sunday Is Best for Foreign Visitors?
There is no single best date.
Choose based on the kind of experience you want:
- September 6: Opening weekend and Water Wars
- September 13: K-pop dance, university clubs and casual participation
- September 20: Games and active participation
- September 27: Chuseok and international traditional culture
- October 4: Major food-truck day
- October 11: Media art and the strongest night-visual theme
- October 18: Yoga, stretching and wellness
- October 25: Final Sunday, special program still TBA
If I had to choose one date purely as an international traveler, I would put October 11 near the top because it combines Hangang night views, the unusual bridge structure and a program designed specifically around light after sunset.
If food is more important, choose October 4.
If you want a seasonal cultural experience around Chuseok, choose September 27.
What Can You Do Without Joining the Main Weekly Event?
You do not need to register for the headline program to enjoy the festival.
The wider Jamsugyo area includes recurring attractions throughout the autumn season.
Official information lists regular features including food trucks, handmade-product shops, local markets, play areas, rest spaces, performances and a Silent DJ Party.
The recurring eco-friendly Moonlight Restaurant area is planned with around 30 food trucks, while the market area includes handmade products, local farm goods and selected craft experiences.
Some rest areas and individual experiences require reservations or additional payment.
The important distinction is simple:
entering and walking through the festival is free; every activity is not automatically free or reservation-free.
Don’t Miss the Banpo Moonlight Rainbow Fountain
The Banpo Bridge area is already one of Seoul’s best-known Hangang night spots because of the Moonlight Rainbow Fountain.
The official fall festival information includes the fountain among its recurring attractions.
Exact fountain operating times can vary by season and operating conditions, so check the current schedule instead of building your entire visit around an old timetable.
If your Seoul trip includes more evenings beside the river, read JAY’s Han River at Night guide for more ideas.
How to Get to the Car-Free Jamsugyo Bridge Festival
For most international visitors, approaching from the Banpo Hangang Park side is straightforward.
From Express Bus Terminal Station
Use Express Bus Terminal Station, served by Seoul Subway Lines 3, 7 and 9.
The official Banpo Hangang Park access guide recommends Exit 8-1 or 8-2, followed by an approximately 15-minute walk toward Banpodaegyo Bridge.
From Sinbanpo Station
Another option is Sinbanpo Station on Line 9.
Use Exit 1 and walk through the Banpo access route for approximately 15 minutes.
From Dongjak Station
The official festival information also recommends Dongjak Station, served by Lines 4 and 9, as another public-transport option for the Banpo Hangang Park area.
If Seoul’s subway system is still unfamiliar, read JAY’s guide to using the Seoul subway before heading to Banpo.
If you plan to use public transportation frequently during your Seoul stay, compare your options in JAY’s Seoul Climate Card guide.
Should You Drive to Jamsugyo Festival?

I would not.
On every festival Sunday, vehicle access is restricted from 12:00 PM until midnight along approximately 1.1 km from the northern end of Jamsugyo to Moonlight Square on the southern side.
The festival itself runs from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, but the road-control period is longer to allow event setup and clearance.
Seoul also warns that Hangang Park parking areas become very crowded during the festival.
Nearby bus routes can be temporarily diverted because of the road restrictions.
Public transportation is the sensible default.
What Time Should You Arrive?
This depends on your goal.
If you are joining a scheduled activity, follow that program’s registration and check-in instructions rather than relying on a generic arrival time.
If your main goal is simply to walk Jamsugyo, eat, take photos and enjoy the Hangang atmosphere, you have much more flexibility.
My favorite general strategy would be to arrive in the late afternoon.
That lets you experience three versions of the same place:
- the daytime festival
- sunset over the Hangang River
- the illuminated Banpo and Jamsugyo area after dark
You also avoid arriving close to closing time and missing most of the atmosphere.
Is the Festival Worth Visiting If You Don’t Speak Korean?
Yes, especially if your goal is atmosphere rather than a complicated workshop.
Walking the bridge, enjoying Hangang views, buying food, watching performances and browsing the market areas do not require much Korean.
For activities requiring advance registration, complete the booking process before the festival day and save your confirmation information on your phone.
Is the Festival Really Free?
General festival entry is free.
You do not need an admission ticket simply to walk Jamsugyo or enter the main festival area.
However, budget separately for things such as:
- food trucks
- handmade products
- some craft activities
- selected experiences
- programs with their own participation rules
This makes Jamsugyo one of the easier Seoul events to add to an itinerary without committing to an expensive attraction.
Why 2026 Is a Special Year for Jamsugyo
This is not being advertised as the final Jamsugyo festival forever.
That distinction matters.
Seoul plans to fully pedestrianize Jamsugyo Bridge in the second half of 2027.
Because of that transformation, autumn 2026 will be the final season using the current temporary “Car-Free Jamsugyo Bridge” festival format.
After full pedestrianization, Seoul plans to bring the festival back in a new form suited to the permanent pedestrian bridge.
So the correct message is not:
“This festival disappears after 2026.”
It is:
“This is the final season of the current car-free festival format before Jamsugyo becomes a permanent pedestrian bridge.”

JAY’s Take
The Car-Free Jamsugyo Bridge Festival 2026 is exactly the kind of Seoul event I like recommending to travelers.
You do not need an expensive attraction ticket.
You do not need to build your entire day around it.
And you get something that feels much more local than simply checking another famous landmark off a list.
The key is choosing the right Sunday.
If you want food, go on October 4.
If you want night atmosphere and photos, October 11 is the strongest themed date.
If you want seasonal culture around Chuseok, September 27 is more interesting.
If you simply happen to be in Seoul on another festival Sunday, the regular festival is still worth considering because the bridge itself, Hangang views, food trucks, markets and recurring programs continue throughout the season.
Just remember one practical rule:
do not drive there.
The bridge is closed to vehicles for twelve hours on festival Sundays, parking is limited, and the entire point of the event is to experience Jamsugyo on foot.
After the festival, you can keep the evening going with JAY’s Seoul at Night guide.
Before your visit, check the official Seoul Metropolitan Government 2026 announcement and the official festival website once more because reservations, individual programs and the October 25 finale can still be updated.
